View Details →#89 limestone is 3/8 inch, crushed and angular. It's small enough to fill tight spaces around pipes and foundations, firm enough to use as a walkway surface, and consistent enough to screed as a leveling course under pavers. Different job than #67 or #57, both of which are too large for these applications.
Not the same. Pea gravel is a rounded, natural stone. #89 limestone is crushed and angular. The angular edges interlock under load so it stays put. Pea gravel rolls and shifts. For bedding or paving applications, #89 is the better product.
Works best as a finish layer over a #610 base. On its own, #89 is too small to resist tire movement on heavily trafficked driveways. Lay your #610 base first, compact it, then top with #89. That's how contractors in Carlyss and Moss Bluff do it.
One inch is standard for most paver jobs. Screed it flat, then set your pavers directly on top. The fine particle size gives you a consistent, stable bed that holds position better than sand on its own. For large flagstone, go up to 1.5 inches to account for any variation in stone thickness.
