Common Uses for #57 Limestone

#57 is the drainage stone in Calcasieu Parish. The 3/4-inch angular pieces leave gaps that water moves through fast. Here's where we deliver it most often.

French Drains

The go-to stone for French drains in Lake Charles. Wraps around the perforated pipe and lets water pass right through. No fines to clog it up.

Retaining Walls

Backfill behind retaining walls to drain hydrostatic pressure. Water builds up behind a wall, it pushes it over. #57 stops that.

Driveways

Works as a base layer or standalone driveway surface. The angular pieces interlock and compact. Add #610 limestone on top if you want it smooth.

Pipe Bedding

DOTD-approved bedding for water, sewer, and storm drain lines. Cushions the pipe and keeps it from shifting when you backfill.

Concrete Sub-Base

Drainage sub-base under concrete slabs, sidewalks, and patios. Keeps groundwater moving away from the slab. Stops cracking and heaving.

Utility Trenches

Standard backfill for utility and drainage trenches on residential and commercial jobs in Sulphur, Westlake, and across the Lake Charles metro.

Common Questions

#57 Limestone FAQ

What is it used for?

Drains fast and locks into place when compacted. We deliver it for French drains, retaining wall backfill, pipe bedding, driveway base, and concrete sub-base. Most-requested drainage stone we carry in Calcasieu Parish.

Is it good for driveways?

Yes. #57 compacts into a stable driveway surface. The 3/4-inch angular pieces grip each other instead of shifting around. It's a solid base-layer choice too. Put #610 on top if you want a finer finish.

How much do I need for a French drain?

Standard trench: 50 feet long, 12 inches wide, 18 inches deep takes roughly 0.8 cubic yards. Deeper or wider trenches need more. Run your numbers through the calculator above and call us with the total.

What is the difference between #57 and #67 stone?

#57 is 3/4-inch, uniform. #67 runs 3/4 to 1 inch, so the pieces are a bit bigger and less consistent. Both drain well. Use #57 for French drains and pipe bedding. #67 makes more sense for larger drainage beds where tight grading isn't required.

Do you deliver next-day?

Yes. Call before noon and we can have it out next day. We run deliveries all across Calcasieu Parish, including Lake Charles, Sulphur, Moss Bluff, Westlake, Carlyss, and out to DeQuincy.
